I interviewed the beautiful Candice from Equivalence Mind Body Soul and this is what she had to say..
I hope you enjoy it, and fall in love with essential oils like I have (or are already in love I hope).
1. Please introduce yourself and Equivalence.
Hi Jenna Maree followers, my name is Candice Parkinson. I am an Aromatherapist and the founder of Equivalence mind | body | soul. I have been on the most incredible health and wellness journey and that is why I am passionate about sharing my love and knowledge for natural therapy. I know how incredible we can feel when we treat our bodies with love and respect. I believe in preventative health care through natural medicine and food. I also believe there is a time and place for chemical intervention but I feel that we have overcomplicated certain elements in that area so this is why I am all about going back to the basics and living off our amazing earth, where possible.
Equivalence mind | body | soul is an Aromatherapy company that has a range of organic essential oils and other natural products. Aromatherapy is an ancient healing modality that uses plant oils known as essential oils to support psychological and physical wellbeing. The essential oils are extracted from herbs, leaves, bark, flowers, seeds, roots and other various plant sources.
2. What are your favourite uses for the oils?
I use essential oils in many areas of my life, a few instances that come to mind are in my self-care routine. The properties in certain essential oils have numerous benefits to your skin, for example some essential oils have the power to minimise the look of wrinkles as they tighten facial skin, the essential oils can promote cell growth and can support regeneration of new cells. The numerous antioxidants found in certain essential oils keep your skin young and soft. I love adding essential oils to a relaxing bath, I find that the most effective way to wind down after a long day.
I also love using essential oils during dry brushing, it’s incredible what the essential oils can do for our lymphatic system, digestive and metabolic systems. Using essential oils in your cleaning range is the perfect way to reduce the chemical intake in your home, certain essentials oils have very strong antimicrobial properties which can work as a natural antibiotic and can fight off virus, fungi and harmful bacteria.
I use essential oils in our natural perfume range, candles and in our bath salts. I used essential oils to balance my emotions, energy levels and stress levels so to sum that up, I guess, I am just a normal woman who experiences a range of different emotions. A few more uses that come to mind are on my fur kids (my dogs); I will be writing a blog soon on essential oils and animals so keep an eye out. I also use essential oils during my one-on-one consultations to support the healing journey of certain health conditions. Last but not least, I use essential oils during my spiritual practice; essentials oils have the power to lift our energy vibrations to a higher frequency.
3. What is your favourite oil, one that everyone needs in their life!?
So hard to say which essential oil is my favourite as I have so many! My husband is now used to seeing an essential oil in every area of the house. If I had to choose a few it would be Frankincense, the king of essential oil which is known to assist in balancing emotions and to keep us grounded. I also use Frankincense in my natural skin care range as it promotes healthy skin as it has anti-aging and rejuvenating properties.
I love Lavender and use it daily, each night before I go to bed I add a couple of drops of lavender essential oil to my pillow; the beautiful essential oil has been used for thousands of years to improve sleep. I use Lavender in the bath or shower most evenings as it calms down the nervous system.
I would have to say our range of citrus oils are also my favourite, the smell of Orange, Lime, Grapefruit and Bergamot totally resonate with me and it’s like smelling happiness in a bottle!
4. If someone is new to essential oils what’s your top 3 tips?
I would say that Aromatherapy benefits the mind and body in the best way when used in conjunction with a holistic, balanced and healthy lifestyle. I believe holistic health is through the foods that we eat, what we put on our skin and through the power of thought.
I would say start small, perhaps select 3 - 4 essential oils that resonate with you, get to know your essential oils and their benefits and then as you continue on your aromatherapy journey you can start incorporating other essential oils to your range.
Essential oils are potent so less is more, but when it comes to Aromatherapy use your intuition, get creative and have fun with your oils.
